What is this project about?

As part of our regional waste reduction efforts, our solid waste program provides grant funding to members who apply to reduce waste and promote good habits in the community. Project areas encompass different areas, including:

  • Prevention of illegal dumping
  • Community clean up events
  • Solid waste management plans
  • Educational training and projects

How do I get involved?

Community involvement is important for keeping roadways, parks, and your neighborhood free of debris and trash. Find out from your local waste company if they offer recycling options or search for the nearest recycling plant. Many offer free or reduced options, including a bin to put all the items in that you collect.

To give us an idea of the variety of management options in East Texas, take our poll and share ideas with us below.

What is the Solid Waste Management Plan?

The Solid Waste Advisory Committee comprises local officials and waste management companies who meet quarterly to address solid waste management in East Texas. The Solid Waste Management Plan is a cooperative and regional approach that includes:

  • Maintain long-term, cost-effective transportation and disposal opportunities for all areas of the region.
  • Promote programs to control illegal dumping.
  • Develop and encourage cost-effective recycling, composting, source reduction, and other waste reduction activities.
  • Develop and evaluate institutional arrangements affecting waste management.
  • Coordinate Regional Plan implementation and encourage local planning activities.

The solid waste management plan is a 20-year approach, with the updated plan taking feedback now. We would appreciate your participation and comments by filling out our polls and discussion board below. You can also view the document under the tab to the right.
