A New Way to Engage with Your COG

Welcome to Let's Talk ETCOG, our new online engagement platform! Your community and government make better decisions when you have a voice in the process. Let's Talk ETCOG is part of a broader regional effort to make it easier for the public to engage with their COG.

This online platform offers various interactive tools, including discussion forums, polls, surveys, and crowdsource mapping. Use Let's Talk ETCOG to contribute your ideas and ask questions about featured projects at times that work best for you.

ETCOG serves as the bridge between federal, state, and local governments, helping cities and counties solve challenges and impact the future regionally. We were established in 1970, and either directly or through our contractors, we provide programs and services for East Texas seniors, employers, and job seekers. We also build the 9-1-1 emergency call delivery system, provide peace officer training and homeland security planning services, and deliver rural transportation services, business finance programs, and environmental grant funding for the region. You can find out about our services on the ETCOG website and direct websites to the agencies we administer by visiting the links on the right.

Our 14-county service region includes Anderson, Camp, Cherokee, Gregg, Harrison, Henderson, Marion, Panola, Rains, Rusk, Smith, Upshur, Van Zandt, and Wood counties.

Why is ETCOG using an online public engagement platform?

Public engagement usually involves attending an open house, public meeting, or providing a letter to Council. To enhance in-person engagement efforts, Let's Talk ETCOG will help reach a broader audience for those who may not have the chance to participate in person, gather more resident feedback, and offer the community a new way to provide input on projects.

Why should I get involved?

We want to hear from you! Let's Talk ETCOG is a safe and secure online space to share your thoughts and ask questions about select ETCOG projects, policies, and initiatives. Join the conversation and have your say!

How do I provide input?

Your input can be submitted using the online options relevant to each of the projects currently open for consultation. Note: To provide feedback, you must be signed in.

Why do I need to sign up for this site to provide input?

We ask you to sign up for the online platform because:

  • It helps to minimize the chance of the consultation being manipulated by someone who leaves many comments supporting a position.
  • It allows us to update residents if there are changes about the consultation or the project.

Do I have to live in East Texas to register/engage?

No, we welcome any feedback on the exciting ETCOG projects and initiatives.

Can I use this site anonymously?

Yes, you can use this website anonymously. Even when you register and post comments, your anonymity is protected because your chosen screen name identifies you.

What happens to my input?

All input and ideas are compiled and sent to the relevant project manager to inform the recommendation and/or decision making.

Input provided online is used in collaboration with other in-person consultation activities like open houses, public meetings, pop-up events, workshops, and other similar activities.

Note: All comments you make through Let's Talk ETCOG become public records.

Will my questions be monitored and answered in real-time?

When the project is live, content and engagement will be monitored regularly. Questions will be answered promptly – typically within three (3) business days.

How will I be contacted?

By registering for Let's Talk ETCOG, you consent to receive emails about new engagement opportunities and information and updates about consultations you have participated in or subscribed to.

Is my privacy protected?

Yes, the City will only use your email address to contact you with updates and invite you to participate in consultations. Your email address will not be distributed to any third party or used for any other purpose. For more information, see the Privacy Policy.
